Most of employers require applicants that there must be formal training in the field of electronics for electronics technician. This training is usually in the form of an associate degree. It is in electronics or similar training from a technical school or the Armed Forces. Besides employers looks for individuals who have graduated high school. They must have experience and background in mathematics and the physical sciences. Also it is possible for technicians to take additional courses. And it can be even in case they are hired. There are programs in electronics technology and related subjects in a lot of community colleges. Besides there are some States that have 4-year apprenticeship programs for electronics technicians. In general technicians are moving ahead by demonstrating leadership ability. Also they are promoted to lead-level and supervisory-level positions. They can get a bachelor's degree and advance into a wide variety of different positions in the field of engineering. 
Opportunities
Employment of electronics technicians is expected to increase between 2002 and 2012 faster. Electronic components become very important in the manufacture of various types of products. It is due to the complex of nature in technicians' work. But automation in some way has negative effect on employment in this occupation. There will be great opportunities for those who have experience in digital and analog circuitry, microprocessor systems or microwave equipment.
