Armed Forces Retraining in Ukraine
The problem of the social adaptation of retired officers and other contract military specialists became extremely important and relevant in Ukraine in recent times due to the continuing defense reforming and transference of the Ukrainian army to the contract military service.

As a consequence of the former Soviet militarization of the Khmelnytsky region, lots of military facilities still exist in the town and region. Therefore the problem of ex-officers retraining and employment is very important as it may assist in improvement of the retired officers’ status and the social tension reducing in Khmelnytsky region.

khmelnytsky_national_university Khmelnytsky National University takes part in different international projects and programs that are extremely useful for Ukraine as well as its regions. During the ceremony on 15 February 2006 a NATO-supported Resettlement and Retraining Centre was inaugurated in Khmelnytsky, to assist Ukr aine in dealing with the consequences of defense reform. The project is part NATO’s Partnership for Peace Trust Fund initiative, with the Netherlands providing the role of lead nation. It is intended to help Ukraine undertake the social a nd economic consequences of the ongoing defense reform and the associated armed forces’ downsizing.

The project is to be completed over three years (2006 – 2008) and is designed to help Ukraine manage the negative social and economic consequences of reform in the defense sector. Approximately 600 officers transferred to the reserve are to be retrained to get social specialties at Resettlement and Retraining Centre in Khmelnytsky.

The Resettlement and Retraining Centre retrains and gives employment to officers in the closing stages of their service and those retired or transferred to the reserve. Released servicemen are retraining during 3 months, according to 500-hour study program. Retiring military personnel from across Ukraine have a great opportunity to take advantage of a variety of courses proposed by the Centre, such as:
  management (entrepreneur work),
  marketing(goods and services market),
  computer systems and technologies,
  logistics,
  graphic design and advertising.

After graduating, all graduates get the state certificate of raising the level of their skills as well as international certificate to widen their employment options in their renewed social life.

The assistance in job placement is being provided throughout employment fairs and individual counseling as well.
