Doctorate Degree Thesis
The process begins with the selection of a thesis adviser, who is as a rule the member of the doctoral committee and the most knowledgeable about the topic a student plan to cover in his or her thesis. A student will work directly with his or her adviser to plan a researchable topic and develop it into a dissertation proposal. The dissertation proposal is a significant intermediate step. It illustrates the general problem a student will be addressing, discusses the applicable learned literature, describes and justifies the methodology he or she will be using, and formulates definite research questions. A student will need to defend his or her proposal before the full doctoral committee. This will perfectly be a constructive meeting, since the collective expertise of the committee should help strengthen a student proposed research.

Thesis research and preparation is a highly personal process, throughout which a student will work closely withhis or her adviser, sometimes this may be about several years. A student’s adviser will mostly decide when his or her thesis is complete and ready to present to the full committee.

Defending a student’s completed thesis is the conclusion of this process. Unlike earlier examinations, a student is now considered an expert on his or her topic and will need to defend his or her findings against the questioning of the committee members. Every member of the committee will estimate a student’s work separately, but a consensus is what will determine if his or her thesis is accepted. When it is, a student’s finished work will be added to the university library and in most cases, is published.

A doctoral degree represents a lot of hard work and effort, and earning one should give a student a great sense of achievement. It will also earn a student respect from many people he or she meets, since they will understand what it took to earn those initials behind his or her name.
