Research doctorates are characteristically awarded in identification of academic research. Professional doctorates are given to those who take part in a profession, such as law or religious ministry, more willingly than scholarly research.
The final doctorate degree, the honorary doctorate, is precisely what the name suggests: honorary. These degrees are awarded to those students who have made an important contribution to a specific field. A student does not have to attend a university to reach this doctorate degree.
More and more people than ever are following doctorate degrees, which are the highest academic degrees received. Requiring two to five years minimum of postgraduate work, the writing of a publishable thesis, and the passing of not easy exams, doctorate degree programs have need of a considerable amount of time and effort. They can be earned in a number of different disciplines, from medicine to philosophy.
The most frequent doctorate degree is the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD sometimes called the DPhi) degree, often earned by those who wish to teach advanced college courses or conduct substantial research in a particular area.
