| Searching a Graduate School | Many Graduate Schools present preparation and practice tests for GRE, GMAT, LSAT, MCAT, and other admissions examinations. The GRE general test is the most generally customary college admission exam for graduate school. This test estimates the knowledge that students have achieved over long periods of time. The GRE usually consists of three parts: verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, and analytical writing. The quantitative and verbal reasoning parts are made up of many choice questions. The analytical writing part consists of two essay questions.
Every student will obtain three different scores for his or her GRE test; one for every of the three parts. The scores for the two many choice parts, the quantitative and verbal reasoning parts, vary from 200 to 800. The score for the analytical writing part ranges from 0-6. The regular GRE general test score is about a 500 for the quantitative and verbal reasoning sections and about a 4 for the analytical writing section. Obviously, the better students score, the better chance they have of being accepted into more competitive graduate programs.
Additionally to student’s GRE general test scores, a number of graduate programs also require scores for the GRE subject tests. All graduate programs will require student’s undergraduate transcripts and letters of recommendation. A lot of schools also need a personal essay of a student.
Depending on area of study of a student, his or her background, and the schools he or she applies to, a student may qualify for an assistance ship. This can almost pay student’s studing at graduate school. Most assistance ships will pay full tuition with a monthly stipend through the school year in exchange for teaching labs or undergraduate courses.
Competitive assistance ships are usually granted based on GRE scores and undergraduate GPA's in addition to a personal experience. The most qualified students in a graduate program will regularly secure the assistance ships.
